Spore Shibori — Oversized T-Shirt

Leave a mushroom cap gills-down overnight and it draws a picture we normally never see. Millions of microscopic spores fall onto the surface and form a radial print. Mycologists use its colour as one clue in identification; to the eye, it is something stranger, halfway between a scientific record and a piece of natural graphic design.

Spore Shibori connects that print with another image made indirectly. In Japanese shibori, cloth is folded, bound or stitched before it enters the dye bath. Colour reaches only the places the binding allows, so the finished pattern records resistance, pressure and chance.

Across the oversized T-shirt, the two traces merge. From a distance it looks like a dark, irregular resist-dyed surface. Move closer and gills, caps and spore maps come into focus. This is a digital all-over print inspired by shibori, not a hand-dyed textile, and it keeps its secret until you enter its orbit.

Care

Machine wash cold with similar colours. Do not bleach or dry-clean. Line dry. If ironing is needed, use a maximum sole-plate temperature of 110 °C without steam.

Minor differences in colour and exact print placement may occur between the screen mockup and the finished product.
